Dietmar Hamann, a former Liverpool midfielder, has stated that he still believes Jurgen Klopp’s team will win the Premier League title this season despite sliding to second place after Sunday’s 2-2 tie with Manchester United.
The Reds needed a late Mo Salah penalty to gain a point at Old Trafford, while Arsenal thrashed Brighton away from home to reclaim the lead on goal difference.
Manchester City is in third place, trailing only Arsenal and Liverpool by one point, and the title fight appears to be one of the most intriguing in history.
Hamann told talkSPORT (via The Boot Room): “I still fancy them [Liverpool] since there was nothing wrong with their performance [against Manchester United].
“Clearly, they should have won the game. However, I’m not confident about the penalty awarded to Liverpool.
“If you look at the run-in, City certainly like their chances as well, but you can’t count Arsenal out.
“But I just think that because of the Klopp factor, everyone wants to send him go in style, perhaps with three trophies.
“It may lead to a Liverpool Premier League victory. I still support Liverpool.”
Liverpool finally won a league title after a 30-year wait in 2020, but City has won the last three and will be confident of maintaining their crown.
Arsenal, on the other hand, appear to be in good shape and will have learned a lot from last season’s near miss, in which they led for the duration of the campaign before fading.
Injuries have decimated Klopp’s squad this season, but with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota likely to return soon. There’s no reason we can’t win another league title and give our German manager a fitting send-off.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager will leave Merseyside at the end of the current season, but he has his sights set on winning the league title and the Europa League first.
