The Reds made an unsuccessful attempt to sign the gifted midfield player from Spain.

But it appears that Michael Edwards and company are still keen to capture the talented midfielder for a Basque team. The 25-year-old reportedly regrets turning down Liverpool in the summer and would reconsider if given the chance.

Zubimendi has said he is open to a move to Anfield and TDF can now “confirm” that the Reds are still interested in him. This is encouraging news for Liverpool as they look to get a new number six.

This season, Arne Slot has led by example, bringing out the best in Ryan Gravenberch at the #6 position. The Dutch midfielder has replaced Wataru Endo as the starting defensive midfielder and appears to be a rejuvenated player.

Gravenberch does, however, possess several traits that are useful further up the field. If he could play the Alexis Mac Allister role with a defensively shrewd player like Zubimendi, he would be so much more effective.

Zubimendi is a very composed player in the middle of the field. On and off the ball, he almost always makes the proper choices. The Anfield fans would get incredibly fond of the Spanish international very soon.

In the upcoming transfer windows, it will be interesting to watch whether Liverpool makes another attempt to get Zubimendi.

If they obtain the player’s consent, they might need to activate his release clause once more, but otherwise, things ought to go more smoothly.
